National Open University Admissions Requirements 2025–2026

Since most programs don’t require JAMB, NOUN’s admissions process is made to be as accessible as possible.

The requirements for 2025–2026 are as follows:

Programs for Undergraduates

  • O-Level: a minimum of five O-Level credits (WAEC, NECO, or equivalent) in no more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics. Nursing programs demand RN/RM certification, while law programs require English literature.

  • Age: When applying, candidates must be at least 16 years old.

  • Direct Entry: Applicants must have an A-Level certificate, NCE, or its equivalent with pertinent topics (such as IJMB or OND) in order to be considered for 200-level entry.

Postgraduate Programs

  • Postgraduate Diploma: At least a passing grade in a bachelor’s degree from an HND with at least a Lower Credit, or from a university recognized by the NUC. To draft legislation, one must be called to the bar.

  • Master’s Degree: A Bachelor’s degree from an NUC-accredited university with at least a Second Class Lower. Candidates with a postgraduate diploma or two or more years of relevant experience who have a lower classification may be taken into consideration.

  • Ph.D.: A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; for details, speak with the study center.

  • O’Level: five credits, which include math and English (some programs accept a pass in math).

Admission Process

  • Go to admissions.nouonline.net to apply online.

  • Application fees are N10,000 for postgraduates and N5,000 for undergraduates.

  • Send in the necessary paperwork, including your passport photographs, O-level certificates, and a valid ID (such as your NIN).

For undergraduate entrance in 2025–2026, the National Open University requires five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics; JAMB is not required.

Program Duration and Study Mode

  • Undergraduate: usually lasts four years (a B.Sc. in accounting, for example, requires 120 units). Students who enter directly can finish in three years (90 units). Eight years is the maximum amount of time.

  • Postgraduate: Master’s degrees take two years, Ph.D. programs take three years or more, and postgraduate diplomas take one to two years.

  • Study Mode: Completely online or through study aids (CDs, printed materials, audio, and video). Except for a few study locations, NOUN offers two semesters a year without typical classroom lectures.

Undergraduate programs at NOUN offer flexible online learning alternatives and run for four years.
